Cultivating Self-Compassion through Emotional Intelligence: 4-week Course (must register in advance)

  • GLC Lounge (Byers 417) 505 College Street New Haven, CT, 06511 United States (map)

The GLC is offering a new four-week course with Grace Edmunds, meditation teacher and Certified Search Inside Yourself teacher, a program developed at Google.

In today’s fast-paced, personal image-based world, we hold ourselves to incredibly high standards and often, with unreasonable expectations. We are often very hard on ourselves, with our inner critic taking aim at any vulnerability, especially when we experience a failure or a setback. Modern research on self-compassion has shown that it is the most effective strategy to cultivate resilience and rebound from setbacks more quickly.

In this four week course, we will examine the 5 competencies of Emotional Intelligence with a focus on self-compassion and mindfulness. In addition, we will learn practices that can be easily integrated into our daily lives to help us to recover from setbacks, find motivation in encouragement rather than criticism, grow a positive attitude, and learn how to better care for our minds, bodies, and hearts. All of the practices shared are evidence-based lessons in the areas of mindfulness and self-compassion.

Space is limited to 18 students. Attendance at all four sessions is required, so please check your schedule before registering.  Course is held on Tuesdays 7-8pm from 10/29 through 11/19.

If you are a graduate or professional student joining the course, please reach out to tracy.george@yale.edu for details on access to Silliman College.

Tea is always available for free during class, but please BYOMug.
